The process of becoming an adoptive parent is particularly complex.

We will advise and guide you through this process. By adopting a child you will be granted all the legal rights, duties and responsibilities a parent has in relation to their child, as though you were their parent from birth.

Before making any order relating to adoption, the court must consider the effect upon the child, throughout his or her life, of becoming an adopted person. It is one of the most important decisions a court can make. A child’s relationship with their birth family is ultimately severed and the birth parents will no longer hold parental responsibility for them.

    Forced Adoption

    You may hear the term forced adoption, often used by parents who have had a child, or are at risk of having a child, placed for adoption without their agreement. It is a traumatic and painful experience.

    Parents in this situation will need skilled legal representation. Our team are accredited Children Panel lawyers, recognised by The Law Society for their expertise in cases involving children. We will ensure the Court has all the relevant information before it makes a decision based on the best interests of your child and we will argue passionately on your behalf to keep your family together.

    Non Consensual Adoption

    The United Kingdom is one of only two EU countries that allows non consensual adoption.

    For non UK resident parents in particular, this process can seem brutal and confusing. We are experienced in working with families from different countries who are faced with the prospect of their child being placed for adoption in the United Kingdom. Our team have the skills and knowledge to know when it is ‘necessary’ for cultural specialists to become involved and have been successful when persuading the court that their input is invaluable in the decision making process.

    Adoption without consent

    The court will always consider adoption without the parents’ consent to be a last resort.

    We can help put your case to the court and, if justified, argue that your child could safely be returned home. If having heard all the evidence, the Court does not agree, we will have already discussed your options with you so that you can make an informed decision. That will invariably be to consider alternative family members who could care for your children.

    I’ve been working with A&N Care Solicitors since I was in PLO. I was in an OK place, then an incident occurred in July 2014 which resulted in the local authority taking away my child in to care. She went up for adoption last year in March but I kept fighting with the help of A&N care solicitors and did all that was asked.
